Organ Suite

Psychological illness, love, and the forest — this organ suite is inspired by the life and work of the Lithuanian artistic and musical genius M. K. Čiurlionis (1875-1911).

The 1st movement presents a vision of his mind, distorted by schizoaffective disorder.

The 2nd movement portrays a dream of Sofija, Čiurlionis’s wife, many years after his death, in which she sees him once more.

The 3rd movement is an imaginary walk through the Lithuanian forest, embodied in a style that weaves together Guillaume de Machaut’s organum, Čiurlionis’s symphonic poem In the Forest (Miške), traditional melodies, and songs by Vytautas Kernagis—all united by the theme of the forest.
